چکیده

This study aims to provide a review for odor detection, recognition and source localization and ongoing approaches taken to address the problem. To this aim sensor structures and chemical detection process are introduced. Next, recognition techniques of odor from detected chemicals are explained. To introduce source localization problem, the odor dynamics is introduced and models of odor diffusion mechanisms are discussed from different aspects. Next, forward and inverse problems for source location are defined and demonstrated in relation to several applications. A discussion of commonly utilized estimation methods to solve the localization problem in the literature is provided; Triangulation Method, Least Squares Method, Maximum Likelihood Method, PQS are briefly discussed. Finally, a case study for mobile odor tracking is presented with simulation results. Key-Words: odor, tracking, plume source localization, diffusion, estimation, PQS (Process Query System)

Low-Power Odor-Sensing Network Based on Wake-Up Nodes

The localization of bad odors is a long standing issue with high relevance for affected people because of the health and safety implications. In order to enable the detection and localization of bad odors we propose a wireless, low-power consuming sensor network. The sensor nodes are designed to wake-up upon initial detection of a bad odor to then start to measure the strength of the odor. Taki...

Multi-Sensor Integration to Map Odor Distribution for the Detection of Chemical Sources

This paper addresses the problem of mapping odor distribution derived from a chemical source using multi-sensor integration and reasoning system design. Odor localization is the problem of finding the source of an odor or other volatile chemical. Most localization methods require a mobile vehicle to follow an odor plume along its entire path, which is time consuming and may be especially diffic...

Review on: Odor Localization Robot Aspect and Obstacles

Since 1982, creature Olfaction system has attracted researchers to do the similar system. Although the olfaction system is still a mystery for humans but the initial step built successfully with the term of E_Nose. Extended application of E_Nose opens a new gate for researchers. This topic which is called odor localization, caused lots of affording for scientists to hire the robot and explorer ...
